Powrtran New Tailfin Model 8001 (replaces Python Steering Unit Item 7800) for Outboard Motors with Steering Tube Shipping

Introducing the All-new TAILFIN Kicker Steering System – the quickest in the industry.  Steer time is adjustable down to just under 2 seconds lock to lock. Most importantly, the responsiveness of the TAILFIN system lets you make quick adjustments and tight turns in all conditions. From smooth as glass to rough and windy waters, the TAILFIN kicker steering system is an ideal choice.

The upgraded wireless remote features a long battery life and a protective cover so you can troll all day in comfort.

The TAILFIN Kicker Steering System is designed for closed throttle cruising and trolling and can be operated by hand or foot.  Whether you are bowfishing, trolling, or steering a motorized kayak, wireless kicker steering is an incredible upgrade. Grab your TAILFIN kicker steering system today and see for yourself that “There’s nothing quicker to control your kicker!”
The Python from Powrtran 7800 with Steer Tube Kit STK-100  is used with transom or OB Bracket mounted motors without a steering tube. The Pow'r Steer is ideal for awkward or hard-to-reach transom or bracket-mounted motors up to 25 HP, has a marine grade, submersible, high torque 12 volt motor that draws just 5 amps.

The unit steers the motor faster side-to-side to adjust course in rough or fast-moving water. The drive unit and motor are separate from each other for fast and easy service or replacement.

Designed for closed throttle cruising and trolling, the Python can be operated by hand or foot. An extra optional wireless remote control is also available, which allows the power steering to be operated from anywhere on board.

Motor can be mounted on either side of the kicker.

Frequently asked questions

Q: Can I hook my TAILFIN System up to my iTroll unit?
A: Absolutely!  The TAILFIN System comes with an extra switch input that you can use to connect your iTroll control head.  If you order an iTroll unit from us, it will come pre-wired to plug right in.  If you purchased your iTroll elsewhere, you will need to contact iTroll for an adapter.

Q: I used to have a tie-bar connecting my kicker motor to my main motor.  Can I use that same bracket when installing my TAILFIN linkage?
A: In most cases, no.  The tie-bar bracket sticks too far out from the motor to provide a proper pivot point.  Connecting the linkage this far out will limit your actuator travel and result in shorter turning ability.

Q: Can the motor be tilted up with the system installed?
A: Yes, the linkage arm is designed to tuck in above the motor clamps and the rest of the system does not move. If your motor has a safety strap system, we recommend making sure the motor is pointing straight forward before trimming up down.

Q: Can the TAILFIN be used in saltwater?
A: Yes, the TAILFIN is rated for saltwater use. The components are all stainless steel or painted steel and all electrical connections use marine-grade, tinned wire and sealed-pin connectors.

Q: Does the TAILFIN control throttle?
A: No, at this time, the TAILFIN is a standalone steering system. It is, however, easily paired with the iTroll as well as a number of other throttle controllers.

Q: Can I manually steer the motor with the TAILFIN installed?
A: No, when the system is fully installed, the actuator cannot be backdriven. We do include a quick-disconnect linkage option in every system which, if installed, would allow you to easily disconnect the linkage arm from your outboard and regain manual steering.
